How to write the Aramaic Alphabet - tabletWhen writing Aramaic, you generally try to write in a continuous motion, going clockwise and trying to write the letter so that you finish at the bottom of the letter, heading to the left of the page, ready for the next letter. This, of course, is the opposite to English!

 
When you are writing the Aramaic letters, try to bear this circular motion in mind. The following picture illustrates the motion that you are trying to achieve:

When you look at the way the Aramaic letters are written in the diagrams in the following lessons, try to remember this right-to-left, circulating motion. You might think it is easier to write them another way. This is because you have been writing English all your life, and have got used to the way you write things in English. It takes time to adapt to the new way that Aramaic does things!
