It says in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.” The beginning of knowledge starts with reading God's Word (the Tanakh, or Hebrew Bible), but that Word is written in Hebrew and Aramaic, not English or Greek or some other language. Therefore, before you can read God's Word, you must first learn Hebrew and Aramaic. Before you learn Aramaic, you must first learn the Aramaic Alphabet.

For this reason, your journey must begin by studying the Aramaic Alphabet. These lessons will help you do that. The Targums, the Aramaic Old Testament (Peshitta Tanakh) and the Aramaic New Testament (Peshitta) and all written in Aramaic. Jewish writings such as the Talmud and the Zohar are also written in Aramaic.

This set of free lessons discusses the Aramaic Alphabet in Square Script, which is the script widely used by Hebrew. The Square Script is used in the Hebrew Bible and many other writings in both Hebrew and Aramaic. Therefore, the Square Script is a great place to start.
